Among the best universities again!

2019. június 21. - 12:08 In terms of the number of international students the University of Debrecen continues to preserve its leading position among all Hungarian institutions as witnessed by the QS international rankings.

The list, based on data provided by 1620 universities, publishes the best 1001 universities of the world. The University of Debrecen has preseved its position at 601-650.

Specialists at London-based Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) have been compiling the world rank of insitutitons of higher education since 2004. When compiling the list they consider six indicators: faculty/ student ratio (20%), employer reputation (10%), citations per faculty ((20%), academic peer review (40%), international staff ratio (5%) and international student ratio (5%).

In the last category UD came out best among the seven Hungarian universities featuring on the list, an increase of 27 positions.

In the examined year of 2018 the number of all the students from over 100 countries, studying at the 14 faculties exceeded 5000. Most of them attended the Faculty of General Medicine (2081), the Faculty of Engineering (678) and the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Technology (566).

- International competition is important for the university as are successful positions on various rankings since all this provides valuable professional feedback about our results so far, the level of teaching, research and academic innovation work conducted at our university, and, of course, gives our university a good name worldwide, general vice rector Ákos Pintér told unideb.hu.

The University of Arts and Sciences of Szeged has slipped to position 501-510 from its previous 470, Eötvös Lóránd University of Budapest and the University of Arts and Sciences of Pécs have advanced to a 701-750 from their previous 651-700 rank,  while the Technical University of Budapest University of Engineering and Economics and Budapest Corvinus University have preserved their previous rankings 801-1000.
