There is no other Hungarian festival with such close links to an institute of higher education as Campus. The faculties, institutes and departments of the university will receive an opportunity once again this year to participate at the country’s first “smart” festival, between 19 and 23 July. Almost 30 units of the university have responded to the call with their ideas for events, and the details are now being discussed with the successful applicants.
The physicists will place Rubik’s cube in the focus this year, but there will also be experiments with magnets and measurements taken with a variety of instruments. The Department of Ethnography will stage a programme on tales titled “Mese-mátka”, while the Italian Department will conjure up a little bit of Italy at Campus Festival, where they will await visitors with wonderful food and a playful quiz. The Institute of English and American Studies will once again invite members of the local American football team, and there will be an opportunity to try on their protective gear for a photo or two, as well as to try the sport.
“Thanks to the University and National Library, visitors will have a chance, now for the first time, to make book selfies; what’s more the librarians will also have their bring-a-book, take-a-book free shelf at the event, which was already successfully introduced at the earlier Book Week event”, Zsuzsa Mándy of the Scientific Directorate, the unit announcing the call for programme proposals, told the portal unideb.hu.
The legal “money laundering” offered by the Department of Inorganic and Analytical Chemistry will be a novelty, while the giant university board game will return to Campus Festival after its huge success last year.
A record number of festival-goers, a total of 98 thousand people, partied in the vicinity of Nagyeredei Stadium over the four days last year, and “Egyetem Tér” also set new records. Entertaining and popular science programmes will be offered again at the stands of the University of Debrecen for all visitors from the age of 2 to 99. Spectacular experiments, microscopic and ultrasound festival selfies, 3D portrait photograph, and the recognition of herbs all attracted large numbers of visitors. More than a hundred people “tied the knot” at the festival weddings, and many also tested the electric car developed at the Faculty of Engineering.
The faculties, institutes and departments will offer their events from “Day 0” at the third largest event venue of the festival, located close to the main entrance. Campus Festival, the winner of an Artisjus Prize, will celebrate its tenth anniversary this year by offering 220 musical and 200 other types of programmes at 18 locations between 19 and 23 July. The increasing recognition of the festival is indicated by the fact that a few months ago it has received the highest qualification of Europe for Festivals, Festivals for Europe (EFFE), the most important European organisation of the field.
To give a taste of the atmosphere of the festival, we evoke the most memorable moments of last year’s events with the help of the video produced by the Multimedia Competence Centre.
