International Cooperation for European Research
Representing the social sciences community of their respective countries, lecturers and researchers of five countries – UK, the Netherlands, Belgium, Italy and Finland – discussed the diversity and challenges of urban life, and the tasks of social scientists and professionals on 29-30 November.
- The University of Debrecen is a member of CARPE, the first strategic alliance of European universities. The members seek to promote involvement in European research programmes and collaboration in the development of research and academic programmes – explained László Csernoch, vice rector for science affairs.
The partnership is based on cooperation among lecturers, researchers and students, in order to create a pool of knowledge that may support the education of social science students in the member countries. Graduated professionals should be able to deal with the challenges of polarized societies, including issues related to subcultures, behavioural problems, differences in terms of culture and religion, and also to strengthen cohesion in urban communities.
- The objective of the workshop was to prepare a research plan that is focused on the investigation of issues connected to the diversity of urban societies, the analysis of communities, and identify best practices – Judit Csoba, professor of the Department of Sociology and Social Policy, told hirek.unideb.hu.
