Erasmus 30 Roadshow
“Three decades is also a milestone in the life of a human being, but the same can be said about Europe’s largest educational programme as well, which Hungary and thereby also the University of Debrecen, joined in 1998,” said Elek Bartha at the press conference on the event, held on 7 March. Referring to the traditional visiting of universities abroad by the itinerant students of the former Reformed College, the vice rector for education called the programme, which organises several hundred thousand mobilities per year, “modern peregrination”.
“During its 30 years’ of existence the Erasmus programme has influenced the lives of more than 9 million university students and faculty members. It was originally launched as a higher education exchange programme; however, nowadays it also offers individual and institutional opportunities as well, ranging from volunteering through traineeships to international cooperation” – this is how Tibor Tóth, grant coordinator of Tempus Public Foundation summarised the significance of Erasmus.
“More than 3,600 students from the University of Debrecen have participated so far in study abroad programmes or professional traineeships. In the Erasmus programme, the institution has agreements for bilateral student or faculty exchanges with more than 350 European partner universities, as a result of which students can apply to almost a thousand places each year,” Orsolya Jánosy, head of the International Office of the University of Debrecen, emphasised.
On the official YouTube channel of the University of Debrecen, in the series of films titled “Borderless Experiences”, students introduce themselves and share their experiences gained during their studies abroad.
The university has already published its Erasmus study abroad opportunities for the 2017/2018 academic year. The deadline for applications is 30 March 2017. More information is available at www.erasmusplusz.hu.
